Standing strong is as unnatural to a creeping bush as it is to many of us. I, myself, would rather be moving; in fact, I have convinced myself that I’m stronger while in motion, not while at attention. However, of all the postures, standing is that which more accurately reflects one’s discipline, fortitude, consistency, and resolve. Consider the trees in the forest that remain where they had been planted, while they watch all other creatures roam around from one end of the woods to the other. I can almost hear them say, “I shall not be moved!”
This past school year, WCA has been like a forest for those of us who have dedicated our lives to this piece of ground. Mature trees, undergrowth, and even saplings have stood on the watch while stirrings and movements traversed the landscape. None of us have been left unaffected by even “the little foxes that spoil the vines”; yet all of us can honestly say that, in many ways, we have come to realize the Apostle Paul’s admonition: “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit ye like men, be strong” (1 Cor. 16:13). So here we stand and will not be moved!
